11/26/13 Third grade has their rubric finalized! (below, left). We worked through it a second time and think we have something that we all agreed to. Having their voice in the rubric will help everyone to understand the expectations. We worked as a class to brainstorm components and then small groups with sticky notes to sort those components and then drafted a class version all together. A paper copy went home with every student today, if it gets lost between here and there, the rubric is also to the left as a pdf file. Great job, 3rd Grade!
11/20-21/13 Fourth and Fifth grades created their rubric for the assignment. They had some great ideas of what "Cheeseburger" would look like (our expectation) and some unique ways to extend and go deluxe! I will type this up and post it also. The rubrics are under this poster. |
Dear Parents,
Your child is engaged in an extensive Social Studies research project! We had a wonderful time with the World’s Fair last December and any students asked to have another fair. To take us a little closer to home, this year we will be researching a state. The essential question that guides this unit is: How would your life and culture be different if you lived in some other place? There are 2 major components of this unit, most of which will be accomplished at school. Research: one state and complete required research pages (varies per grade level – please check second page of research guide). Select and complete additional pages based on personal interest. The final assembly should happen at home. Students will have several options to choose from to create their final project. We are lucky to have such enthusiastic geographers, cartographers, and historians in our classroom. While the content is important, lifelong learning skills are developed from the process of doing this project. I’m confident that our students will do another excellent job! As always, you can help by talking to your child about our school activities and by making geography and social studies a part of your family experiences and conversations. And, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Flo. |
