SMART Goals
This week, we talked about goal setting (especially important as we try to make milestones for the State Fair and for robotics.)
To get us going, we are setting SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Reasonable and Timed.
We started with an activity involving Smarties. For 3 rounds, we set goals for how many we could stack from a single base (thank you E.G. for helping me clarify that!) :-) We definitely have some creative thinkers in the groups! In round one, students were asked to set a goal of how many they could stack, in one minute, using both hands. In round two, students set another goal for how many they could stack using their dominant hand. In the third round, students were asked to set a new goal for their non-dominant hand. We scored each round (ask your student how that was calculated) and talked about how this might apply to other times when we might have to set goals.
Students shared their thoughts with their table mates and with the group as a whole. This activity gives us all a starting point and vocabulary for setting goals (which we did right after this for our State Fair research time).
